Confidence in God
Are you a confident person? You can be! What people don't realise is that confidence and a clear conscience before God go hand in hand. It is true you can be confident without God, temporarily! Without your Creator, life is fragile.
I was up a ladder last Saturday cutting the last of our persimmon fruit. The scissors were sharp. My wife, Lisa, had just said it wasn't a dangerous task. Cutting the next twig was tough so I put in extra effort. My finger got in the way. Thankfully, the staff in the Campsie emergency ward were efficient and caring. Thankfully, I have nine fingers that are good, and one that is healing.
Every morning I have a devotional time with God. I thank him for the experiences of the previous day when writing my diary. I read the Bible and meditate about it. I pray for others and, systematically, for one nation in the world. I then commit my day to God. I sense the presence of the Holy Spirit providing guidance, warning, protection, and blessing. The scriptures and familiarity with God's leading builds a growing confidence in God. God's forgiveness through the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus creates a clear conscience. Life is not free from danger. Something as simple as picking fruit can still go wrong. But the promise of God in Christ goes beyond the grave.
The new series for this quarter will focus on the New Testament book of Hebrews, chapters 10 and 11. You will be challenged to have confidence in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and in the local church with all its fragility. You can have confidence in God that will last forever.
