Kindness
Acts of Kindness HSCC, 7 Nov. 2025
The fifth fruit of the Spirit is kindness. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Galatians 6:10 )
To be kind to another person is to do something good for them, big or small. It can be a complimentary word, a helping hand where needed, or simply saying, “Have a good day!”
How can we improve in our acts of kindness?
- Do acts of kindness in the Spirit (“as we have opportunity”)
Begin each day worshiping God. The Spirit of God then speaks to our heart and mind, preparing for what lies ahead. “Clothe yourselves with … kindness” (Col. 3:12).
On the way to lunch, I came across a mother in distress. Her young son had broken his arm on play equipment and was in excruciating pain. Since I was ready and able, I drove them to RPA emergency. It was faster and cheaper than waiting for an ambulance. (They thanked me later giving me a big hug.)
- Do acts of kindness to everyone: (“do good to all people”)
God is kind to everyone, so should we. Jesus informed his followers, “Your Father in heaven… causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”
Be kind to those who cannot repay you. Jesus advised the host of a great banquet, “Next time, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous” (Luke 14:12-14).
“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” (Mark Twain)
- Do acts of kindness in your church community: (“to the family of believers”)
God has a special love for Christians because they have received his Son. Remember to do acts of kindness also for your fellow believers!
Dorcas was a disciple of Jesus and well known for doing good works. When she died unexpectedly, the apostle Peter was called over to pray for her. She was raised back to life! (Acts 9).
Paul was ‘rewarded’ (not) by some Galatians after sharing the Gospel with them. He was stoned and left for dead. “After the disciples [who did beleive] had [kindly] gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city.” (Acts 14:20).
Acts of kindness can, through God and the Christian community, bring you back to life! “Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.” (Mark 9:41)
